Will Tariffs Affect the Unexpected Color That Dominated Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025

The unexpected color that dominated Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025 was Mocha Mousse, a rich, soft brown shade that emerged as Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year. This versatile brown appeared in various fabrics like suede, jersey, and leather, serving as a luxurious yet unpretentious classic that designers used as a backdrop for other colors on the runway.

Top brands of women’s clothing might be affected by trump’s tariffs

Several top brands of women’s clothing are being affected by the Trump administration’s tariffs, especially those that rely heavily on manufacturing in Asia and other tariff-targeted regions. Notable examples include:

Skims (founded by Kim Kardashian): Skims produces much of its shapewear and underwear in China and Thailand, making it particularly vulnerable to the new tariffs on Asian imports. The 46% tariff on goods from Vietnam and a 34% tariff on goods from China are expected to significantly raise costs for brands like Skims, Nike, and Adidas, all of which rely on Asian manufacturing for women’s apparel and underwear.

Nike and Adidas: These global brands also manufacture a significant portion of their women’s clothing and footwear in Vietnam and China, exposing them to the same steep tariffs.

Argent: An independent, women-led workwear brand, Argent sources materials and production from countries like China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and EU nations such as Italy and France. The tariffs on these regions are forcing Argent and similar brands to reevaluate their supply chains and potentially raise prices.

American Eagle: As another major importer of women’s undergarments from Vietnam and China, American Eagle faces increased costs due to the new tariffs.

The impact is industry-wide, affecting both large multinational brands and smaller, women-led labels. The U.S. imports about 98% of its clothing, so nearly every women’s clothing brand that relies on foreign manufacturing-especially from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the EU-faces higher costs and potential price increases for consumers. The so-called “pink tariffs” also mean that women’s clothing is taxed at a higher rate than men’s, exacerbating the impact on both brands and female shoppers.

Final takeaway

In addition to Mocha Mousse, vibrant and bold colors such as electric blues, sunny yellows (notably butter yellow), fiery reds, and playful pastels like delicate pink also featured prominently, signaling a shift away from muted tones toward more vivid palettes.

This rich brown hue was somewhat unexpected compared to the usual bright or pastel colors typically spotlighted at fashion weeks but quickly became a key trend embraced by designers like Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, and Hermès.
